SPIRITUAL GROWTH Eucharistic Adoration: ACTS sponsors Eucharistic Holy Hour once a month on the blank blank of every month at blank time. Musicians and lectors are needed for each night. Contact: ACTS leadership team. acts@latech.edu Retreats: ACTS hosts two retreats annually. The fall retreat will be held Dec. 12-14 at Lake D’Arbonne state park. It is planned and coordinated by the ACTS leadership team. During Lent, there is a Busy Person’s Retreat which will be held Sun-Thurs, Mar. 22-26. Each participant meets individually with a spiritual companion according to their own schedule and gathers with other participants for evening activities. Contact: Rose acts@latech.edu The Prayer Team is a group of students and parishioners who commit to pray at least one hour a week for ACTS and St. Thomas Aquinas Church. They also host group prayer once a month in order to pray for those intentions together. Contact: Danielle Howard deh013@latech.edu Bible study/ Faith sharing: Every Tuesday night, ACTS gathers for an evening of faith sharing. That sharing is alternately topic-based and Scripture-based. Once a month this group meets at Tolliver to have their discussion over the delicious food offered to LA Tech students. Topics are announced each week. Contact: Sam Graves slg032@latech.edu RCIA stands for ‘the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults’. RCIA classes are designed to lead a person to full reception into the Catholic Church. Classes are open to anyone with questions about the Catholic faith. They gather each Thursday at 6:30pm , and topics are announced beforehand. The Social Justice Committee plans activities to promote the social teaching of the Catholic Church and to address the needs of the community including: service projects, Tuesday night discussions, and prayer services. If you are interested in helping plan or coordinate any of these kinds of activities, contact Jorge Montesdeoca jrm071@latech.edu Pro-Life activities: ACTS works with Bulldogs for Life, the pro-life group on campus to promote the culture of life on Tech campus and in the Northeast Louisiana area. If you are interested in joining the Bulldogs for Life or being on the contact list for upcoming pro-life events, contact Sam Graves slg032@latech.edu Mission trips: ACTS sponsors a week-long mission trip each summer to Lake Providence , LA , and occasionally revisits Lake Providence for a ‘mission day’ during the school year. During those trips we serve the elderly and children of Lake Providence . Contact: Rose acts@latech.edu The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a group of parishioners at St. Thomas dedicated to the service of the poor and prayerful reflection. They gather for prayer and business meetings every other Saturday and are seeking young members to accompany them on home visits to their clients. The president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is Ms. Bernadette Bennett 251-2689 Sunday school teacher: Teaching or assisting in a Sunday school classroom is a great way to give back to the parish and learn more about your faith. Training in ‘Protecting God’s Children’ is required to volunteer with the young people of the parish. LCCS Representatives are elected each year from among ACTS members to represent us at state meetings and keep the members of ACTS informed of LCCS activities. Our current representatives are Allison Tohme’ amt022@latech.edu and Sam Graves slg032@latech.edu The Peer Ministry Team is a group of students that work to make the Catholic Center an inviting place. They commit to be members of the prayer team and be present in the Catholic Center at least two hours a week. They gather once a week to support one another and exchange ideas. Contact: Hilary Whaley hmw012@latech.edu Fundraising: Ten percent of the annual budget of ACTS is raised by student fundraisers. This year we plan to host a video game tournament, man the concession stands at LA Tech basketball games, serve at the Lenten fish fries, and hold a rummage sale as our organization’s fundraisers. Intramural sports: Each quarter ACTS tries to compete in at least two intramural sports. We have a great history in women’s flag football and co-ed kickball. Contact: Natalie Fasullo ntf003@latech.edu Saturday socials: Every Saturday ACTS hosts an activity to encourage fellowship and wholesome fun. Most evenings involve a meal cooked by one of the members of ACTS and games. Some special events include: tailgating, dances, road trips, and service projects. Everyone is invited to attend, and events are announced ahead of time.
